Obituary for William McShane

McShane, William John (January 18, 1941 – January 8, 2022)

With his family by his side, William John McShane passed peacefully in his home on January 8, 2022, just shy of his 81st birthday.

Beloved husband of Rosemary (Smyth) McShane and dear father of Paul McShane (Deanne), Harvey McShane, Douglas McShane (Amy) and Susan Baillargeon (Rejean). Loving Grandpa and Papa to Abigail Baillargeon, Sarah McShane and Benjamin Baillargeon. Son of the late Joseph McShane (Sarah), brother to Bertie, and late siblings, Annie, May, Nellie and Harry.

William was born in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, and attended Queen’s University in Belfast where he met his lovely bride, Rosemary. Together they immigrated to Canada in 1965 and established their roots in Hamilton where Bill was a practising Civil Engineer, P. Eng., for over 40 years, with C.C. Parker and Stantec Engineering Consultants.

In addition, William leaves behind a legacy as a life-time member of the Hamilton Hornets Rugby Club (player/coach), Shakespearean actor, hockey and lacrosse coach, orator of poetry, loving father and devoted husband of 58 years. William exemplified integrity, work ethic, loyalty, and great Irish wit to family, colleagues and friends. He will be truly treasured. The family would like to thank Dr. Juriansz, and Dr. Judge for their compassion and support.

Pandemic limitations have dictated a private cremation service for his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Diabetes Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
